What is a recessed door sensor?

Recessed door sensors, like the 5818MNL, have low-profile designs that hide the devices from view in a home or office setting.

Recessed door sensors use magnets and sensors to determine whether a door is open or closed. A hole is drilled into the door frame and its door, and the sensor and magnet are housed inside. Recessed sensors are great for users who are conscientious about the decor of their home or office, and don't want to see door sensors protruding out of every doorway.

How it works...
These sensors monitor magnet gaps to determine if a door is open or closed. The sensor is mounted inside a small hole in the door frame, and the magnet mounts inside a hole the door. When the door is opened, the magnet and sensor separate, which signals to the control panel that the door is open. Because of their compact design and location inside doors and door frames, recessed door sensors often lack the wireless range of non-recessed sensors.
