When you install a product like this, one major difficulty could be establishing mounting threads in thin-gauge metal frames. Many times, installing blind nuts is required to establish an adequate thread. The issue is that blind nuts can cause surface-mounted door hardware to not fit flush to the frame.

The 9600 electric strike has been designed to provide a flush mount even when used with blind nuts. If interested in purchasing blind-nuts and blind nut installation tools, buy the Securitron BN-250 blind nut and accessories pack.

    Frequently asked questions:

    Q) I hear a buzzing noise coming from the electric strike once it is activated, should I be worried?
    A) That would be AC power running the strike.

    Q) Can I buy raw repair parts for the 9600?
    A) Unfortunately, HES does not offer repair parts - but the good news is that if your strike is still under warranty, it can be returned to us for a quick and easy replacement - just call us at (516) 812-0917.

    Q) My 9600 is broken. Can I send it in for repair?
    A) Neither us, or HES is going to repair a broken 9600 - if you purchased the 9600 from us, and it is still under warranty, than we will gladly accept it and send you out a brand new one right away.

    Q) I just touched my strike and it was very hot. Is this an issue?
    A) This is completely normal under continuous duty.

    Q) What wires are included with this product?
    A) Most HES strikes will ship with a new black connector, which is intended to make wiring easier for you. It is a four-pin, 3 millimeter, male connector. Since the 9600 is dual voltage, you will find two pigtail options in the box - one for 12V, and another for 24V.

    Q) What is the electrical information?
    A) .45 Amps at 12 VDC continuous duty, and .25 Amps at 24 VDC continuous duty. It is also PoE friendly.

    Q) Is it fire-rated?
    A) No it is not, if you are looking for a similar fire-rated strike we would recommend the 9500 Series (the 1006, 4500, 7500, & 8300 are also fire-rated)

    Q) What type of power does the 9600 use?
    A) DC Solenoids only.

    Q) What are the dimensions on the 9600?
    A) Please refer to the Dimensional Drawings PDF for more precise measurement. The dimensions of the 9600 are: 9" x 3/4" x 1-3/4".

    Q) Is the 9600 Fail Safe or Fail Secure?
    A) It is field selectable to either Fail Safe or Fail Secure - this is a big part of what makes this strike so great.

    Q) It seems like the default setting is Fail Secure - how do I switch to Fail Safe?
    A) You are correct, the default setting is Fail Secure. If you wish to change the setting to Fail Safe, loosen the 4-40 screws located in the back of the strike - but be sure not to remove them. Then move the screws from the Fail Secure operation location to the Fail Safe operation poisition. Keep in mind that both screws will need to be moved in order to correctly adjust the setting. Tighten both sets of screws and you should be all set. Should you wish to revert to Fail Secure just loosen the screws, move them back to the Fail Secure operation, and retighten.

    Q) What is the difference between the 9500 and 9600?
    A) When comparing the HES 9500 to the 9600 there are really only two major things to know. Do you need your strike to be Fire-Rated, and do you need your strike to be Windstorm Resistant. If you need a Fire-Rated Strike you will need the 9500, and if you need a Windstorm Resistant strike you will need the 9600.

    Q) What is the difference between the 9400 and 9600?
    A) When comparing the HES 9500 to the 9600 the main difference lies in the strength and rating of the strikes. The 9600 is stronger at 2,500 LB static strength, vs. the 1,500 LB static strength of the 9500. The 9600 is also stronger with 120 ft-lbs dynamic strength vs. the 70 ft-lbs dynamic strength of the 9500. The incredible strength of the 9600 is what has gotten it to be Windstorm Resistant Rated.

    Q) What is the list price on the HES 9600?
    A) The most recent list price on the 2016 Price Book was $480 for the standard 9600 (630 Finish.) The 613E finish had a list price of $510; The 613, 606, and 612 finishes had a list price of $550; The 605 and 629 Finishes has a list price of $563. Here at JMAC Supply we strive to offer you the most competitive prices around on all HES Electric Strikes.

The HES 9600 is certified to withstand hurricane winds! The superior strength and durability of the 9600 is recognized and certified to be hurricane-strength wind resistant. The ANSI (American National Standards Institute,) the SDI (Steel Door Institute,), and the BHMA (Builder Hardware Manufacturer's Association,) have all certified the 9600 to be compliant with the ANSI/SDI-BHMA 250.13 standard to withstand hurricane strength winds.

A severe windstorm or hurricane is defined as being a weather event with sustained winds or gusts of up to 150 miles per hour! Now that is one strong electric strike! It is for this reason that the 9600 is one of the most sought out and bought electric strikes on the market today. If you try searching for another surface mount electric strike that is certified windstorm-rated, good luck, because there is no other strike like this available on the market.
