How does the Honeywell 5878 keypad work?

The 5878 is a wireless, wall or surface mounted fob with six buttons.

The 5878 is compatible with 5800 series wireless receivers, like the 5881ENH, and functions much like other keyfobs except it's mounted to a wall or surface. It has six keys, four of which can be programmed to control alarm system functions, like arming and disarming. This device does not require the user to enter a disarm code, but rather just press a button to arm/disarm the system. For this reason, the 5878 should be mounted in a secure location. The last two buttons are a two-button panic key.
